About Our MTC Development

Commitment to delivering the best possible trauma centre

On October 1st 2018, Aberdeen became the first Major Trauma Centre in Scotland playing a key role in leading the way in delivering specialist trauma care for both children and adults.  The North of Scotland Major Trauma Centre (NoS MTC), based in on one of the largest health campuses in Europe, is part of an inclusive and collaborative North of Scotland Trauma Network spanning five health board areas with a collective land mass of 17,997 square miles /46,718Km2, making it unique to many other trauma networks in the UK.

The NoS MTC and Network were developed as part of an inclusive Scottish Trauma Network which reflects the needs of the population across Scotland.  The development of the NoS MTC and NoS Trauma Network is a key national, regional and NHS Grampian priority with significant investment committed over the coming years to enhance patient clinical and functional outcomes (across the whole pathway from prevention to rehabilitation and ongoing care), in addition to improving the experience of patients, their families and staff across the Network.

As part of this exciting development we have had the opportunity to create a highly dynamic, specialist multi-disciplinary team who are key in transforming trauma care for the better locally, regionally and nationally.

Our MTC staff are highly motivated professionals who strive to ensure patients receive the best possible care and who are dedicated to personal development to be the best.  They are committed to working collaboratively as a team both within the MTC and with clinical teams across the network to provide the right care, at the right time to ensure the best possible outcomes and experiences for patients and their families now and in the future.

Our approach is to strive for excellence in all that we do and our service is all about people – patients, their families/carers, staff and the public.
